The Suunto Ambit 2S, at first blush, is a shorter battery life version of the Suunto Ambit 2 without a barometric altimeter and some weather features according to the Heart Rate Watch Company.

WEIGHT and PROFILE

The Suunto Ambit 2S weighs 2.5 ounces whereas the Suunto Ambit 1 weighed 2.8 ounces, however the Suunto Ambit 2S does have a slimmer overall profile. "The Suunto Ambit 2S is superb for triathlon competitors doing half Ironman and shorter type distances, but it does not have the battery life for a full Ironman," says Rusty Squire, president of the Heart Rate Watch Company.

"Chief tester John Yarington liked the way the Suunto Ambit 2S fit relative to the Suunto Ambit 1," says Squire. He adds, "He did say that the level of feature upgrades relative to his needs was not significant, but for swimmers it added a new dimension".

FEATURES

The Suunto Ambit 2S does have a compass and navigation features along with 100 way points that can be remembered. The watch also has more memory and can run up to 5 apps simultaneously, whereas the Ambit 1 could only run a single app.

"It's a great triathlon, cycling and running watch and has enough navigation features to make it very useful outdoors," says Squire. He adds, "The lack of weather and a barometric altimeter make the Suunto Ambit 2 and the Suunto Ambit 2 Sapphire a better choice for mountain enthusiasts."

BUILD

The steel bezel and quartz mineral crystal make the Suunto Ambit 2S a very durable watch when compared to similar models by Polar and Garmin according to Squire. "The quality of construction with Suunto heart rate monitors is undeniable," says Squire.
