Treechada "Poyd" Petcharat is Thailand's most famous transgender star. Poyd began her transition at a relatively early age, when she was 18. She did so minus the support of her family. But this never stopped her achieving her dreams.
When she was 19, the young woman from Phuket traveled to Pattaya in Thailand to compete in and be named the winner of Miss Tiffany. This was back in 2004. Today, Poyd is a spokesperson for Thai culture and, of course, transgender rights. She realizes her good luck and her responsibilities. In 2014, Poyd made a move that would launch her into international film stardom. She signed a five-year contract in Hong Kong designed to make her one of Hong Kong and China's leading stars in action films. This endorsement of her celebrity value came right after she had appeared as Mina Wei in The White Storm, a Hong Kong crime thriller produced in 2013. Also in the same year she signed her contract, Poyd came in 73rd on The 25th Annual Independent Critics List of the 100 Most Beautiful Faces—2014.
These days, Poyd continues to work in film and television and as a model. The 2004 winner of Miss International Queen also continues to balance her work and life with matters she believes equally important. Poyd, for example, already has a Master's degree and currently is continuing her postgraduate studies. She also is sure to return to her roots in Phuket, holding on to it as a refuge against the busy face-paced lifestyle of the workaday world. A quiet place where she can always be with family and friends.
